Rom. 13:1-7 – People often take a critical view of the State’s power and blame it for their troubles. The State can even be a source of persecution for the Christian Church. Scripture however, does not encourage the Christian to harbor a negative approach to the authorities. The Bible teaches that the authorities that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, we have to learn to see our authorities’ activities as a means by which God care for us. In the long run, even persecution is useful for the Church. The Bible teaches that we should be subject to the authorities and only disobey if God’s Word would be violated if we follow the State’s demands.
