This parable shows that we are all saved not because of our deeds, but because of God’s great grace. All of us would not be able with our own strength to earn at least a bit of salvation, however, we receive blessings from His hand.

As we are finishing sermon series on David, we have to mention the One who was called the Son of David. David himself many times speaking prophetically talked about his descendent. He saw through the ages the drama of redemption. He saw that the Holy One of Israel would be humiliated, insulted and nailed to the cross. David saw not only the suffering of Christ, but also His ministry in the present. However, ages were separating David from the birth of the Son of David. Two thousand years had to pass before the One who was greater than David, was born in the little town where Ruth came from the Moabite country to become the grandmother of David.

David is very important person in the history of Israel. Authors of the Bible turn to David again and again. He has unique contribution to the history of Israel and to the formation of the state of Israel. His life reflects our moral problems, our struggle against sin and our spiritual loses and victories. We turn to David with different spiritual question. If you want to be encouraged, then read Psalms. If you want to improve your prayer life, then study the relationship of David with God. If you want to learn more about worship, then meditate about the worship of David and again read his Psalms.

David thought a lot about God and His law. In this sermon I want to focus on David’s last words. We are going to talk about David’s last prophecy, his last exhortation to the people and Solomon, and his last prayer and song. In these David speaks about most valuable and treasured. Is it not true, that as we get older, we pay more attention to that which is really important?

I Samuel 17, Eph 6:12, 13

Join me in the valley of Elah, in 23 kilometers to the west of Bethlehem, where the Philistines gathered troops to war with Saul and his subjects (1 Sam. 17: 1-2). We have little interest in militant enemies of God’s people, as well as frightened Israeli troops. I want to acquaint you with David, a young man with beautiful eyes and a pleasant face (1 Sam. 16:12). But we came too early.
